Happy Holidays Everyone!
Phewf. This is one tired teacher. I'm glad I start my day with a hot cup of coffee. It was needed this busy Christmas week:)

Check out some of the holiday themed writings we have been working on! We started our with our "Gingerbread Fred" writing pieces. We read two stories about Gingerbread cookies, gotta please the men/women in our class... we started with the classic "Gingerbread Man" and then moved to "The Gingerbread Girl" by Lisa Campbell Ernst. I then introduced my Gingerbread friend... Gingerbread Fred. We all wrote stories about what we would do if we got to spend a day with him. We had some pretty funny responses. It turned into a nice bulletin board that I can leave up for all of December.

Next we moved onto our "Santa got stuck" prompt. I got this prompt from Pinterest.. it is so popular because it is the CUTEST! I loved reading the funny solutions my kiddos came up with. Poor Santa was pushed out with butter, grease, and even hoisted out by his reindeer! Ha-Ha!(My sample is pictured below)

Our last writing prompt we have done so far is our "Elf Applications". Get your own from:
http://whattheteacherwants.blogspot.com/2011/12/elves-wanted.html

This was a fun activity where the students had to write to Santa and explain why they would make an excellent elf.
Since I have the cutest class, I also had to have them try on an elf hat for a quick photo op! I'm sure they will be hired for X-Mas 2013.

When we were not prepping for a holiday concert or field tripping to the theatre, we were busy making our holiday crafts!! Thank goodness I have such wonderful parent helpers or these would have NEVER EVER EVER (Taylor Swift anyone?) gotten done.

The two snowmen crafts I ordered from Oriental Trading. I love the one that left a space for the student photos. They create such wonderful memories.
The kids about died when I told them I still have my first grade ornaments that I hang on the tree each year--- hey guys, I'm only 22!

The tree treats are made out of icecream cones covered with icing/gumdrops/m+m's.... can you say sugar rush!?

The third ornament was simple tree made out of Popsicle sticks with construction paper for the tree trunk. For next year I would love some pom-pom's to hot glue on for ornaments.

And we did all of these in an hour and fifteen minutes... VICTORY.

I hope everyone else is enjoying the winter festivities going on in their rooms. I can't believe how quickly Christmas is approaching. First grade has definitely put me in the Christmas spirit!

Happy Holidays!
