February always flies by in elementary school... probably because it is filled with so many fun activities and units!
I snapped a few cute photos from our Valentine's celebration... we had some really awesome parents bring in some yummy sweet treats. (Notice us trying to bring in a little bit of "health" with the clementines!)
We made our own Valentine bags, did candy heart bar graphs, worked on a Valentine word scramble, and read a fun reader's theatre I created about Cupid, a puppy looking for LOVE.
We have also started a unit on time and made our own clocks to practice on! I got these off of Super Teacher, they were easy to print on cardstock. It was helpful for the kids to see first hand how a clock is put together, including the sizing of the minute and hour hands.
We also read a fun story called "The Mitten". We worked on a skill all third graders need to practice: FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS! I gave basic directions, and handed out a direction sheet, but after that students were on their own! They had to put together the rest of their project. Overall, they turned out quite nicely!
Along with time, we are also working on a geometry unit. We are reviewing all of 2D and 3D Shapes. We also had these words for spelling so many of our students were able to master that as well. We played games like shape memory (above) to help us work on shape ID. We will continue to work with these shapes in the next few weeks.
How cute are these!?!
We had a parent make these "Green Eggs and Ham" treats for us on Read Across America Day. We all dressed in our PJ's and we worked with some Kindergartners. We played a rhyming game with them (Very Suess-like) and partner read some Suess books with our little buddies!
But March will only get busier! Gear up friends, testing time is near!!!!
:) Looking forward to a good week!
