The first few weeks of school are such absolutely insane!! Just as we get into some solid routines, we get all mixed up with testing schedules. While it is a pain, this beginning of the year testing really helps us to see where our kids levels are at and provide the best placement for them in their tier reading/math groups. The kids have been such good sports and are truly trying their best on each test!! Very proud of them.
We do take a few little "breaks" here and there though (not working them to the bone quite yet;) Last week we studied narratives and got to write some great pieces about our summer adventures.
We also got some time to practice comparing numbers through using our >,<, = signs. The students needed to use their knowledge of place value to see which digit was the greatest. We learned all about "Ally the Alligator" and how she loves to chomp up the greater number!!
The kids loved playing this dice game with a partner and got to practice the comparing numbers skill through the game.
We also finished our first SS unit on "Citizenship". The kids learned about conflicts, and how they can be successfully resolved using "I-Statements"
In the picture below, each kiddo was performing with a partner in a skit. They were given a tricky "Third Grade" recess or classroom conflict and had to figure out the way to resolve it using an I-statement. I pulled out my microphones for these skits, and we had an awesome time watching each other perform.
Tonight is our back to school night and I can't wait to meet the families in our room!
Keep on stopping back to our blog to see what else we have going on throughout the year!
