Top of the morning to ya!

We have been very busy in first grade prepping for St. Patrick's Day. I We had a wonderful time at our St. Patrick's Day breakfast. With the help of all of our first grade parents we were able to have a variety of "green foods" (apples, jello, pears, and even some lucky charms!) Students grabbed their St. Patty's headbands that we made the night before and traveled to the cafeteria when they first got to school.

We also made some leprechaun puppets to go along with our read aloud story on Friday, called "Lucky Leprechaun" by Dawn Bentley. We also had a weeklong morning job of finding our classroom leprechaun "Lucky" who was very mischievousness and  wandered his way around various parts of our room. I also gave each of my students a little St. Patty's day parting gift... a lucky penny!

We have also been reviewing noun/verbs/adjectives. We did a simple sort, but I used shamrock diecuts to sort our sort words. Students worked in cooperative group pairings to share all the shamrocks, and knew to move to the next station when they heard the music (Holiday themed-- Irish music from Disney's Brave!)

I also wanted to decorate our halls a bit and created a new bulletin board and lions for our hallway. I spoke with the children about how "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb!" We made our very own lions and we are all crossing our fingers for a quick transition into spring weather! (but it is currently flurrying so I am not holding my breath!) I also put our "Ouch stories" on my bulletin board. One thing I learned from editing those stories is that scooters are very dangerous toys!! Parents beware;)

We have another busy week coming up so I can't wait to share with you some more of our "March Madness!"
