Yesterday was our 100th day of School, the day before a big snowstorm AND a Friday.. which means a ton of excited little kiddos!
We were super busy on the 100th day. We started our day by coloring in 100th day of school crowns that our school bought for us to give each student. They loved wearing these along with their 100th day t-shirts. Each student came in on the 100th day with 100 items on their t-shirt. We had some very creative shirts!!! Our whole first grade team then put on a fashion show, where the children got to walk the red carpet and show off their shirts!
We also made a 100 day trail mix (Each kiddo brought in 100 pieces of their favorite snack and I mixed them all together!). We then had a series of 100th day challenges--- can we read 100 words? Can we count and write numbers up to 100? We also wrote about what we can do now after 100 days in first grade, that we couldn't do at the start of school.
(How awesome is this autism awareness ribbon t-shirt?)
Earlier in the week we had a fun lesson on estimation. I set up 8 estimation stations and the kids walked around to each station and got to make "estimations" and then count the objects to find the "actual" amount. They had so much fun with this and were so proud when their estimation was close to the actual amount! I taught the children a special estimation "trick".. that by pulling one group of 10 out of the items, you can make a better guess by thinking how many piles of ten could possibly be in the pile.
I also wanted to share my newest addition to the classroom-- The Birthday Elephant. Found him at my mom's house and "borrowed" him for my classroom. Watch the video to hear how cute his birthday song is! The kiddos are gonna love him to go along with our classroom birthday celebrations!
Happy Snow Day friends! Stay warm and safe!
