I am LOVING this January weather. I even got to go outside for a run yesterday (Keep it up PA!)
Even though we are not getting any snow, I'm still going to be incorporating chilly winter things into our first grade studies. We are starting our penguin unit this week. Our first graders write an animal report in the spring. Our penguin unit will be a great whole group model. We will read penguin books to pick out facts to put in our reports, and study different types of penguins.
We also finished our "Flat Stanley" chapter book this week. I created our own Flat Stanley figure and am starting to send him home with each of my students. Each student will get a turn to take him home and take him on an adventure around our county. They should come back to our classroom with a picture (drawn or taken) of where they took Stanley, and a written story about their days with Stanley. I will then assemble all of our journeys into a class book.
I took Stanley home this past weekend so I could show the kiddos an example of what I was looking for. Stanley got a lot of attention from people in downtown Lancaster! :)
We also filled our marble jar this week so it was PJ, Popcorn, and movie time!!!
We watched "Ice Age" (Pulling out that wintery theme again) and got to celebrate Friday all cozy in our pajamas. We all (teacher included) had a GREAT time!
Here's to another great week in first grade!
