Hey there everyone!
I'm teaching my final solo week of student teaching! Yay (so bittersweet!). But because I'm running the show I need to make this a quick post so I can finish prepping for the rest of the week!...

Last week I began our science unit on "Living and Nonliving" things. After going over definitions of these terms and brainstorming various things that fit into Living/Nonliving categories, we worked together on a sort with magazine images that the students brought in. Students worked in groups to sort the images and then I had them take turns coming over to the chart to glue. I took some photos after we were done (below) and while most were correct, some pictures had been placed in the wrong category! (note the Teddy Bear in living things, ha-ha!)
We just took a look at our chart the next day and analyzed it for any mistakes. Students found all mistakes and it served as a great review for what we had learned the day before!

With 2 parents from Philly there have never been any say in which sports teams I was able to like-- I was raised to love all Philly sports teams. Naturally, when I found this craft idea I had to find time to incorporate it. My coop is a Yankee's fan and she even loved it! Super easy to make too--
Materials: (Lots of) green squares
               Paper Plates
Half of a toilet paper roll
               Red felt (tongue)
Red construction paper (We precut these hats for our first graders)
White P's (We drew a bubble letter P and then copied it on white paper)
Students covered their paper plates with the green squares, drew on eyes, and added their Phillies Hat. I then had my helpers work with individual students to hot glue on the toilet paper roll and felt!

GO PHILS!

Going along with the paper plate theme, we also made butterfly life cycle paper plate projects using noodles. We learned the life cycle stage names and even did our own Reader’s Theatre of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Link:
I would have liked another pasta type for the “egg” but this still seemed to work out just fine! They are a nice spring touch to our room!
Also, check out our new spring bulletin board robins! They are so cute, and again pretty easy to make. Students each got 2 brown construction paper circles. They were instructed to cut one in half for the wings. They glued the wings to the body and then added a smaller brown circle for the head.

 Have a great week everyone!!
I'll post again soon with some fun activities from this solo week.... Cross your fingers for some wonderful behavior from my kiddos this week:)
